Several Cambrian College programs suspended due to loss of international students

By Rosalind Russell – Cambrian College has suspended six more of its programs due to a projected deficit.

According to the press release, the college is suspending new intake to another six programs mostly due to federal government policy changes that have caused a drop in international student enrolment.

This follows the suspension of 10 other programs this past spring.

The college is projecting a $1.4M deficit for the 2025-2026 school year.

Cambrian’s preliminary enrolment figures show there are 1,430 international students registered this fall, which is down from the 2,631 from the fall of 2024, while there are 3,516 domestic students, again down about 300 from last year’s enrolment.

Although new intake for the suspended programs is being stopped, current students in these programs will be able to complete their studies.

Up to six full-time jobs could also be affected.

The latest round of suspended programs are fitness and health promotion diploma, business analytics graduate certificate, marketing management, supply chain management graduate certificate, corporate safety and security certificate and community and justice services diploma.
