Rainbow Schools mark Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week

By Rosalind Russell – Schools in Massey, Espanola and across the Manitoulin are taking part in Bullying Awareness and Prevention week.

According to education director, Bruce Bourget, Rainbow Schools are marking Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week including hosting educational activities, lessons and initiatives are part of the board’s ongoing commitment to safe and inclusive schools.

In 2022, the board piloted the Dare to Care anti-bullying program in 12 schools, which has been proven to be effective, so it has now been expanded to all their elementary schools.

He adds students from several local schools will create a “Kindness Chain” that aligns with the Dare to Care program while other will create a “Kindness” display.

Bourget explains when students feel safe and supported, in warm and welcoming learning environments, they gain a sense of belonging at school, which is essential in fulfilling student achievement.
