Sheguiandah First Nation elects new chief and council

By Rosalind Russell – A small First Nation on Manitoulin Island held its election this week.

Sheguiandah First Nation on Manitoulin Island held its election on Tuesday, December 9th, electing a new slate for chief and council.

Pearl Waindubence was elected as new chief.

She will lead a council of four: Carrie Waindubence, Valerie Assinewe, Nathan Shawanda and Xoe Roy Peltier.

There was a total of 154 votes with no spoiled ballots.

The chief and council are elected every two years under the Indian Act electoral system.
