By Rosalind Russell – Elliot Lake council unanimously agreed to endorse the assumption of a housing property by the Algoma District Services Administration Board.
The Elliot Lake Municipal Non Profit Corporation is the registered owner of the 81-unit at 4 Pine Road.
The social services board asked to assume the property to intergrate it into their social housing portfolio and all responsibilities for its operation and management.
Council’s approval was needed to dissolve the non-profit and the transfer of the assets.
The property currently operates within a shared governance and oversight framework involving the city, Huron Lodge Community Service Board Incorporated, and social services.
It was pointed out that it is an older building and needs upkeep, so the move is seen as a good one for the city and the residents.
There is no cost to the city to have the property transferred.
With the endorsement, social services will send in the appropriate paper work to the province for final approval.
That is expected to take place early in 2026.
