By Rosalind Russell – Espanola Regional Hospital & Health Centre’s new CEO, Martin Lees, is looking forward to overseeing the operation of the hospital following the retirement of former CEO Jane Battistelli.
Lees says having her mentorship over the last few months provided a good foundation for the year ahead.
Originally from Massey, his 20 plus years career has focused on healthcare, much of that based in North Bay, adding he is happy to return home to pursue his passion in helping others.
Married to Christy and with two children, he says the area offers a good balance between work and family, and he hopes to see that ideal be part of the care the facility provides.
Lees says one of his goals, as part of the hospital’s strategy plan, is to ensure the system is stable to meet the needs of every patient with centralized care and working in partnership with other communities.
Another goal is to attract at least two new family doctors to Espanola, adding filling that vacuum is also mandated by the Ontario government, and the incentive program well underway.
A third goal is to provide more timely and easier access to mental health and substance programs, to fill the gaps between various agencies and partners in helping the one who needs them most.
Lees adds his door is always open and anyone who wishes to discuss their concerns or has new ideas are more than welcome to present them for consideration.
Lees took on the new position on January 1st.
