Espanola councillor facilitating information session for youth interested in municipal office

By Rosalind Russell – Espanola’s youngest councillor is working with two peers to provide an online information session for youth interested in running for municipal office.

Aidan Kallioinen will be joined by Natasha Salonen, the Mayor of the Township of Wilmot and Councillor Cam Wales of the City of Brockville to facilitate the session. 

According to the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, it is offering a series of workshops for young people thinking about running for municipal office in the October 2026 elections.

The sessions are free, will be held online and anyone interested in taking part are asked to register.

They are set for Wednesday evenings, 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm on February 18th, March 11th, and April 15th.

These sessions will provide insights and strategies to build your understanding and confidence around how to become a candidate and running a campaign.

Attendees will find out critical strategies for successfully campaigning for municipal office, and the obligations and work involved in being a member of council.
