By Rosalind Russell – Ontario Provincial Police are implementing a seat belt campaign for the holiday weekend.
East Algoma OPP Constable Bev Gauthier says their officers across Ontario will be conducting their Easter Long Weekend Seatbelt Campaign, which runs tomorrow through to Monday.
She says OPP will focus on seatbelt law enforcement and education, conducting seatbelt checks and raising awareness about the important role seatbelts play in saving lives.
Gauthier adds motorists can be charged and face a fine of $200 and demerit points for seatbelt infractions adding drivers are legally responsible for ensuring that passengers under the age of 16 are buckled up properly, either in a seatbelt or car seat.
