Flooding occurring on major roadways

By Rosalind Russell – Motorists are being asked to be vigilant when driving on local area roads.

Conservation Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie are both reporting flooding throughout their jurisdictions.

Following days of warmer temperatures and heavy melt, several roads have either flooded or been washed out, including along Highway 17, on Manitoulin Island and in the Massey area.

According to flood reports, though not impassable, Birch Lake Road just past Antonen Road has a washout, which is now under repair,

Beaver Road between Hartley Sideroad and Grimesthorpe road on Manitoulin Island is closed due to flooding, and motorists are being asked to avoid the area and plan alternate routes.

And the eastbound lane of the Highway 17 four-lane is still closed with motorists having to take Highway 55 to travel between Sudbury and the North Shore Corridor.
