Owen Sound Transportation Company seeking new president and CEO

By Rosalind Russell – The operator of Manitoulin Island’s Chi-Cheemaun is looking for a new hand on the wheel.

The Owen Sound Transportation Company, the Crown corporation that oversees operation of the province’s ferries, including the “Big Canoe” as it is called on Manitoulin, is looking for a new president and CEO to oversee all its operations.

Carl Kuhnke (COON-key) was appointed in 2022 and oversaw operations for nearly a year, and then the corporation’s chief financial officer, Mike St. Amant was appointed as interim CEO in 2023.

Among their responsibilities, the successful candidate will provide “strategic leadership to deliver a safe, efficient, and reliable ferry transportation system” including overseeing a $29-million operating budget, a $320-million capital program, managing a fleet valued at more than $200 million and a workforce of some 200 staff. 

The deadline to apply is April 27.
