By Rosalind Russell – Manitoulin Health Centre temporarily closed the Mindemoya Hospital site including the emergency department yesterday afternoon due to a flood-related infrastructure issues impacting water and sewer services.
Despite all efforts to maintain operations, officials say the current conditions do not support the safe delivery of care for patients.
All inpatients are being safely transferred to alternative nearby hospital care locations, and patient families are being notified directly.
Anyone requiring emergency care is directed to call 911 and consider visiting other medical centres including Little Current, Espanola and Sudbury.
The Mindemoya Emergency Department will remain closed until infrastructure services are restored and it is safe to resume normal operations.
In the meantime, the Little Current MHC emergency site will be open, but is urgently asking the public to
• reconsider coming for non-urgent concerns
• use alternative care options where possible
· For medical emergencies, please call 9-1-1. Ambulances will be redirected to the nearest available hospitals.
Residents requiring emergency care are asked to go to:
o Little Current Site – Manitoulin Health Centre
