Espanola Regional Hospital Foundation receives $10,000 gift to support nurses

By Rosalind Russell – The Royal Bank of Canada and its foundation have donated $10,000 to the Espanola Regional Hospital & Health Centre Foundation to mark National Nursing Week.

The bank made the donations yesterday (May 5) as part of its national campaign to support skills development opportunities for frontline healthcare providers.

The campaign, which rolls out next week, includes support for several rural hospitals in Ontario.

Hospital CEO Martin Lees says the funding will be used to integrate their Trauma-Informed De-escalation and Engagement Strategies, a training program for nurses with a focus on mental health and addictions.

RBC Regional President Kim Ulmer adds they are honored to support nursing excellence and the strengthening of healthcare teams.

The donation is part of a national commitment that will see RBC and RBC Foundation donate more than $30 million in single-year and multi-year donations to 93 Canadian hospitals, including Espanola.

Held in honour of nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale, National Nursing Week is designed to increase the awareness of the many contributions nursing makes to the well-being of Canadians.
