(ESPANOLA, ON) – A Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check on Jacklin Road resulted in impaired charge for driver of small grey Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV).
On May 25, 2026, at approximately 8:00 p.m. the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) checked the sobriety of the SUV driver. When police spoke to the driver, a strong odour of alcoholic beverage was emanating from their breath, and an open alcoholic beverage was observed in the driver’s side door compartment. A roadside test registered a fail and the driver was subsequently arrested and brought back to detachment. The SUV was towed and impounded and their driver’s license was suspended.
Belinda Alice SHARRARD, 48-years-old, from Nairn-Hyman Township was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on July 6, 2026.
