
By Rosalind Russell – The Manitoulin Health Centre has received a donation of $50,000 from M’Chigeeng (CHA-giing) First Nation in support of physician recruitment and retention efforts across Manitoulin Island.
M’Chigeeng Chief Glen Hare says the funds will support ongoing physician recruitment and retention initiatives aimed at attracting healthcare professionals to Manitoulin Island.
Hare recognizes that access to healthcare is important for all communities and they encourage other First Nations and community partners across the region to consider contributing towards the initiative.
The board thanked the First Nation for its contribution.
Sheshegwaning First Nation, Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation, Whitefish River First Nation, and Noojmowin Teg Health Centre have also previously contributed recruitment funding in support of physician recruitment and retention initiatives.
