By Rosalind Russell – The Blind River Fire Department has received a nearly $31,000 grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada.
The funding was used to purchase wildland fire equipment to support their emergency response efforts when it comes to wild and domestic fires.
Officials say founded in 2015, the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada is a registered charity that emerged from the original established in the United States in 2005.
The foundation was inspired by the founders’ experiences during Hurricane Katrina and aims to improve public safety in communities served by Firehouse Subs restaurants, one of which is located in Sault Ste. Marie.
