By Rosalind Russell – Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) have signed the new collective agreements, bringing the bargaining process to a close.
The new collective agreements for the Urban and RSMC bargaining units remain in place until January 31, 2029.
As part of the ratification process, CUPW-represented employees recently voted to accept the tentative agreements reached by the parties.
The unaudited results provided by CUPW showed that 89.0% of Urban votes and 85.9% of RSMC votes were in favour.
According to Canada Post, the agreements continue to protect employees’ job security and the defined benefit pension providing higher wage increases, as well as enhanced health benefits and leave provisions.
The new agreements also recognize that Canada Post needs to change, with measures such as an affordable weekend delivery model supporting the transformation.
Having these new agreements in place is critical as we move ahead with a multi-year transformation to return to financial sustainability and better meet the modern needs of the country.
It’s important that we move forward in a timely manner, while continuing to work closely with our bargaining agents and the Government of Canada.
With the stability of new agreements in place, they look forward to working with employees and bargaining agents to rebuild the business, restore confidence in the postal service and better serve the country.
