North Bay hosting Ontario Winter Games and Manitoulin Island is sending some local talent

By Rosalind Russell – The 2027 Provincial Winter Games for Special Olympics are set to be hosted in North Bay from Jan 28-31, 2027, and Manitoulin Island Special Olympics is sending some talented athletes.

The North Bay Police Service states it is looking forward to welcoming over 400 athletes from across Ontario to the city where athletes will compete in five sports: alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, curling, figure skating and snowshoeing.

The Manitoulin Island – Madahbee Curling Team (Triston Eade, Dylan Danville, William Leclair, Tyler Madahbee and Charlotte Wright) have been selected to compete.

Matthew Bedard and Kelsey Mellan have also been selected to compete in snowshoeing.
Athletes, based on age, gender, performance and regional endorsement. are selected from these Provincial Games to advance to compete for Team Ontario at the 2028 National Winter Games set to be hosted in Kelowna, British Columbia.
