By Rosalind Russell – The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities is supporting Ottawa’s decision to stand firm in defence of Canadian industries, workers, communities, and national sovereignty.
This follows the suspension of trade talks with the United States late Friday.
FONOM says it remains hopeful a fair and mutually beneficial deal can eventually be reached, but adds no deal is better than a bad deal. Along with a united Team Canada approach, they’re urging governments to provide timely support to affected Northern businesses and workers, strengthen Canadian supply chains, expand international markets and prioritize Canadian products and materials.
They also encourage residents, municipalities, governments, and businesses to Buy Canadian whenever possible.
