Municipal groups raise concerns about upgrades to Highways 11 and 17

By Rosalind Russell – Two northern municipal groups have written to the Premier, calling on the Ontario and federal governments to establish a jointly funded, phased plan to upgrade Highways 11 and 17 to four lanes.

The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities and the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association wrote the letter.

They say both the Premier and Prime Minister have recognized the importance of these critical east-west corridors and are asking Ontario to begin formal discussions with the federal government.

They say that includes developing a plan with clear priorities, timelines and measurable progress.

Along with being included in developing a phased plan, FONOM and NOMA are offering to meet with the Premier and Prime Minister to discuss the next steps.
