By Rosalind Russell – The Ontario government has invested $2 million through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) to assist the City of Elliot Lake in covering the costs of critical structural repairs and upgrades to the Rogers Arena.
Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Bill Rosenberg was in Elliot Lake yesterday, taking a tour of the arena and announcing the funding.
He says the city received the funding for structural repairs, which have been completed.
The city is cautiously optimistic the public will be able to access the arena by next week, September 21st , with the Elliot Lake Vikings home opener planned for the 25th.
A grand opening of the arena will take place later in the fall.
