By Rosalind Russell – Yesterday, the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing announced financial assistance through the Disaster Recovery Assistance for Ontarians program for those affected by flooding including Billings Township.
However, Central Manitoulin was denied the funding.
The Township of Central Manitoulin says yesterday afternoon, following the Province’s assessment process, the municipality was advised that the program will not be activated for the community, as the provincial threshold for the number of affected primary residences and eligible businesses was not met.
It further states that the municipality understands that this news may be disappointing to those who experienced damage, loss and disruption during this spring’s flooding, adding that although the community-wide threshold was not met, they recognize the impact the flooding had on those affected and thank everyone who reported damage, provided information or helped with the assessment process.
