Automated Licence Plate Recognition Systems activated by Anishinabek Police Service

By Rosalind Russell – As part of its modernization efforts, Anishinabek Police Service patrol vehicles are now equipped with Automated Licence Plate Recognition systems.

Deputy Chief Julie Craddock says its camera-based systems scan and identify licence plates registered to owners in poor standing or individuals connected to active investigations.

She adds they’re widely used by police agencies across the country, and enhance operational efficiency by streamlining what would typically have been a manual process for officers.

Craddock emphasizes the adoption is another milestone in the commitment of the police in bolstering public safety while respecting the rights and freedoms of the communities they serve.
