A cool way to say hi to 2026 – Elliot Lake Polar Dip

By Rosalind Russell – Many people braved minus 13-degree weather yesterday to take in the inaugural polar dip at Spine Lake in Elliot Lake yesterday, January 1st.

Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Bill Rosenberg says it was a great crowd who took in the inaugural “Cold 4 a Cause Polar Plunge,” to raise items and funds for the Elliot Lake Emergency Food Bank.

He says there were over 100 people at Spine Beach but only a few brave souls who took the plunge. Of special note, he adds, was the moving moment of silence to remember loved ones lost in 2026 prior to the screams and laughter of participants and onlookers alike during the plunge itself.

He also thanks local business, Baddie Bandhas Wellness for organizing what he hopes will become an annual event.
