By Rosalind Russell – It has been nearly 15 years since the Algo Mall collapse in Elliot Lake, and a court resolution is expected to be made today.
According to a release from the firm Roy O’Connor LLP, a proposed $10 million settlement will be heard in the courts.
The settlement follows a class action lawsuit by around 300 plaintiffs following the collapse of the mall back in 2012, where two women, 37-year-old Lucie Aylwin and 74-year-old Doloris Perizzolo, lost their lives, with dozens of others injured.
$2.5 million would be set aside for legal and administrative fees and related costs.
The rest would be distributed among the claimants, with each claim being independently reviewed if the court accepts the resolution.
The court hears the proposal today.
