By Rosalind Russell – Elliot Lake council has given its approval to a new Geographic Information System agreement with a innovation centre based in Sault Ste. Marie.
Acting CAO, Natalie Bray says the new agreement has been reached with the Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre and its Acorn Information Solutions division, overseen by the City of Sault Ste. Marie.
She says the systems play a key role in various ways, such as supporting land-use planning, emergency response, monitoring the environment, infrastructure needs and upgrades, as well as specialized training in the use of the data.
Bray adds under the agreement, the centre will provide Elliot Lake with support on an itemized, pay-as-you-go basis.
She adds there is no required minimal amount of municipal funds that has to be spent by the city and specific requests will be made in writing for approval on an as-needed basis.
No minimum annual spend is required, and work will proceed only with written approval from the City’s designated project lead, ensuring both flexibility and financial control.
With council’s approval, the agreement comes into effect immediately.
