Looking for help to build “The Grandparent Connection” network

By Rosalind Russell – A Sagamok-Anishinabek First Nation woman is looking for help to build what she calls The Grandparent Connection.

Laura Owl is looking for input from not only her home community, but also across the North Shore Corridor to build a network focusing on seniors and providing help when needed.

She says we have all seen it, a neighbor struggling with heavy grocery bags, someone sitting alone on their porch, or a senior who missed an appointment because they didn’t have a ride.

She says her vision is to launch the volunteer program with a dedicated phone line where seniors can request rides to appointments, help with shopping or grocery delivery, small chores and the house and friendship.

To that end she would like the public to help with the official name, if they are available to volunteer one to two hours a month, logistics and more,

Owl adds the initiative is only as good as those who contribute and participate, and that we will announce an opening date once we have the required supports.
