By Rosalind Russell – The minimum wage is going up in Ontario.
Starting on Oct. 1, the province’s lowest wage earners will get a 35-cent bump up in their hourly pay — to $17.95 an hour.
The province says the annual increase is tied to Ontario’s Consumer Price Index at 1.9 per cent and will benefit more than 700,000 workers in Ontario.
Labour Minister David Piccini (pronounced pih-CHEE-knee) says by raising the minimum wage to one of the highest in Canada, the government is putting more money in the pockets of Ontario workers.
