By Rosalind Russell – The North Shore Health Network (NSHN) Community Support Services Program participated in March for Meals, an annual campaign that raises awareness and promotes community engagement with Meals on Wheels.
CEO Tim Vine says as part of the campaign, they recognized Community Champions Week by welcoming local leaders and partners to join dedicated volunteers in delivering meals to clients throughout the region.
He adds so much of what the network does in rural health services relies on volunteerism, and Meals on Wheels is a prime example of an important community service that could not operate without that dedication.
Vine says community fundraising such as the 2026 Blind River Volunteer Firefighter Calendar and Valentine Treat Boxes help provide financial subsidies, ensuring meals remain accessible and affordable for clients.
Participants included Blind River Mayor, Sally Hagman, Fire Chief Ryan Belair, East Algoma OPP Constable Bev Gauthier, Brian Beauchamp, the principal of W.C. Eaket Secondary School, and Shawna and Mario, local Paramedics, from the Algoma District Services Administration Board.
