By Rosalind Russell – Laurentian University is marking Truth and Reconciliation Day tomorrow with the opening of a new facility.
According to the release, the Maamwizwing Indigenous Research Institute will officially open its new space with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, symbolizing a new beginning and honoring the shared commitment to community and relationship-building.
There will also a symposium featuring keynote speaker, lawyer and advocate, Kimberly Murray, who is also Queen’s University’s National Scholar in Indigenous Legal Studies.
A Sacred Fire will be lit, ceremony held, and various presentations held throughout the day.
Closer to home, a mini powwow will be held at the Espanola Regional Recreational Complex from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm featuring information booths, a light lunch, ceremonial welcoming and more.
Everyone is invited to attend the free gathering.
