Water main swabbing underway in Espanola

By Rosalind Russell – The Town of Espanola has undertaken its annual fall water main swabbing program.

According to Public Works, staffers began the work last night and will carrying out the work during overnight hours from nine pm to five am until all the streets are done.

Residents on the municipal system are asked to close the main water line in their homes or businesses and do not run water during those hours to prevent swabbing material from entering and/or blocking their water lines.

Public works also recommends running the cold water for at least five minutes without a screen to ensure water lines are clear.

Different streets will be done on different nights throughout the week so the entire town swabbing is expected to take three to four days to complete, then next week the town will undertake the flushing program, ensuring clean water delivery throughout Espanola.
