Espanola Lions Donate To La Cloche Art Show

By Grant Lewis – From its humble beginnings in the old schoolhouse in Willisville in 1977, the La Cloche Art Show has become one of the outstanding juried art shows in the North. It attracts over 90 artists from Canada and a few from the U.S. The 300 entries, which cover many categories, are critiqued by a panel of independent artists. Categories include: oil, acrylic, pastels, drawing, and photography plus others. During the evaluation, names are covered and then winners announced: first, second and honourable mention. There are some very special awards presented also. They include: the Ivan Wheale award, the Peg Forbes award, the Committee Choice award, and Best in Show. There first two are super special as Wheale and Forbes are founding members of the show!

Pictured receiving the $1,000 dollar cheque from Lion member Brian Cairns is Sue Miron who is Chair of the 5 member Show Committee. Featured artist this year is Paulette Stewart from Sudbury and the Island. Her painting,”Georgian Bay”, will be won by some lucky visitor to the Show. The Show runs from June 25th to July 5th from 11:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m at the Whitefish Falls Community Hall. Admission is free. And don’t forget to view the kids’ efforts. After all, they are the future of the Show. Photo provided by Grant Lewis
