Taxes make up large part of family income

By Rosalind Russell – The Fraser Institute says 42% of the average Canadian family’s income went to taxes last year.

The think tank says that’s more than what they spent on housing, food and clothing combined.

The basic necessities accounted for 35.5%.

Officials say out of 114-thousand dollars earned over 48-thousand dollars was paid into visible and hidden taxes at all levels of government.

That includes income, payroll and sales taxes, among others.
