Espanola Lions Donate to Espanola Snowmobile Club

By Grant Lewis – It is mid summer and while most of us are pursuing summer activities, there are many dedicated volunteers getting ready for winter!! These would be members of the Espanola Snowmobile Club who are brushing trails, clearing fallen over trees and getting land permits from private landowners so that come winter , the hundreds of kilometers of snow machine trails are ready.

The Snowmobile club shared the “Catch the Ace Pot” this round and received $8,700 for their efforts. The money will be used to build a warming shed near Spanish, improve fire pits, and construct a new fire pit at the west end of Panache. Security cameras will also be installed to prevent senseless vandalism.

The budget for the Club is small so donations and volunteer help is appreciated. There are just over 400 paid permit holders to help with expenses. Some costs are covered as part of the Sudbury Trail Plan agreement. The two trail groomers used on Espanola trails, are kept at the Ski Hill. During the winter season, groomers go to work at 6:00 p.m. till 6:00 a.m. to make sure everything is perfect. Our trails have a province wide reputation for being well maintained.

On hand to receive the cheque are outgoing President Perry Leeson and incoming President Trevor McVey.
