Economic and energy corridor

By Rosalind Russell – The province is joining Alberta and Saskatchewan in looking to explore how best to establish a new East-West economic and energy corridor.

A request for proposals has been issued by the Ontario government for a feasibility study.

Officials say the corridor would include new Alberta-to-Ontario pipelines, bringing Western Canadian oil and gas to refineries in Southern Ontario and tidewater ports, including a new deep-sea port on the coast of James Bay.

Premier Doug Ford says it’s time to build cross-Canada infrastructure, in-house, to protect energy security, find new markets for Canadian energy and resources and create new jobs and opportunities for Canadian workers.

The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities is supporting the initiative.

FONOM is commending Premier Doug Ford and his government for focusing on the project adding the initiative not only strengthens energy security and economic growth across Canada—it also ensures Northern Ontario is positioned as a key partner in building a stronger, more connected, and more resilient national economy.
