According to the release, they state the average Canadian family of four can expect to spend an extra $994 on groceries next year.
Several universities across the country produced the 2026 report – which is forecasting an increase of 4 to 6% in overall food prices.
Ontario and Alberta are among the provinces expected to experience food price increases above the national average next year.
Compared to five years ago, officials say food prices have jumped 27%.
