
By Rosalind Russell – Political leaders and women empowerment advocates will gather in Sudbury today to advocate against violence.
Nickel Belt MPP France Gélinas says she will be attending the memorial at the Sudbury Indie Cinema today in honour of the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
Gelinas says she will join community members in commemorating the 14 lives which were taken at Montreal’s Ecole Polytechnique in 1989, as well as all those lost to gender-based violence.
She adds guests will also be invited to watch a short screening of Afterwards, a film that highlights women’s voices as they fight to reclaim their power.
The event is at 1 pm and everyone is invited to attend.
It has been decades since the murder of 14 young women at Polytechnique Montréal (December 6, 1989).
This act of violent misogyny shook our country and led Parliament to designate December 6 as The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
