By Rosalind Russell – Elliot Lake Fire Chief John Thomas says a homeowner could be facing charges following a fire over the holidays.
He says firefighters received a 911 call for a fire at a residence at 94 Tokyo Crescent shortly after four pm on Tuesday, December 23rd.
He says the fire was brought under control within an hour with heavy damage to the living room and second floor bedroom, adding there were no injuries.
Thomas says charges are pending since there were no working smoke alarms in the residence.
He adds the cause of the fire was smoking materials and he does not have an estimate of the damage.
Thomas would also like to remind the public that there must be smoke alarms on each storey of a residence adding there must also be CO2 alarms on each floor as required by a new law that comes into effect January 1st.
