By Rosalind Russell – A $1.85 million settlement in a class action lawsuit involving Keurig K-Cup single-serve coffee pods, machines or brewing systems has been approved by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.
It includes everyone in Canada who purchased the pods, machines or brewing systems between June 8, 2016 and Dec. 8 last year.
The class action claimed misleading representations around recyclability or disposability of the pods.
Officials say the court has made no determination in the case and the settlement is not an admission of liability or wrongdoing.
The deadline to file a claim at kcupsrecyclingsettlement.ca — which pays a maximum $7 without receipts is July 8.
Those with proof of purchase can receive 50 cents for every 10 pods, up to $50, and up to $25 for brewers.
