Thessalon’s Shilo Rousseau off to the Olympics

By Rosalind Russell – Thessalon’s Shilo Rousseau is set to make her Olympic debut at Milano Cortina 2026. 

According to the release from Team Canada, she competed at her first senior IBU World Championships in 2025 as a member of the women’s relay team that placed 20th.

She also won three medals at the 2023 FISU World University Games, taking gold in the 10km pursuit and 12.5km short individual races as well as a silver medal in the 7.5km sprint.

She debuted on the IBU World Cup circuit during the 2024-25 season and hit career highs in Ruhpolding, Germany this month when she finished 21st in the pursuit and 26th in the sprint.

Rousseau developed her skills with the Blind River biathlon team and is ecstatic to have made the team.

As a member of the national development team, Rousseau competed at the 2022 IBU Junior World Championships, earning top 50 results in the sprint and pursuit and helping the relay team to a top eight finish. She raced at three editions of the IBU Youth World Championships (2017, 2018, 2019), highlighted by a top 25 showing in the pursuit in 2019.

Rousseau started skiing at age 10 and began doing biathlon at age 12. She began by skiing around her backyard and shooting at targets with an air rifle, following in her father’s tracks. Her dad, Yves, competed at multiple biathlon world championships in the 1980s, but an ankle injury ended his career before he could become an Olympian at Calgary 1988

She graduated from the University of Ottawa with an Honours Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2024, and is now pursuing a Master’s in cellular and molecular medicine at the University of Ottawa…
