By Rosalind Russell – The Elliot Lake pool re-opened yesterday with little fanfare, but enthusiastic users in attendance.
The Ruben Yli-Juuti pool reopened yesterday after being closed due to a mechanical failure last year.
The pool was originally closed for two years and reopened in December of 2024 for retrofit, but last July had to be closed once again due to an acid leak, which corroded much of the equipment in the maintenance room.
As part of the repairs, the pool was transitioned from an acid-based system to a CO₂ system since it is a more reliable method for balancing the pool’s pH levels and poses a significantly lower risk to both staff and equipment.
It is also housed in its own room to increase safety.
