Sables-Spanish Rivers council gives support to Veteran’s Crosswalk in Massey

By Rosalind Russell – Nancy Bishop, a member of the Massey Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #432, appeared before Sables-Spanish Rivers to ask for consideration for a Veteran’s Crosswalk to be installed at the intersection of Highway 17 and Imperial Street in Massey’s downtown to mark the 100th anniversary of the Legion across Canada.

She suggested that if the crosswalk was approved by council, they would also ask for the students hired during the summer program to assist in painting it.

However, Mayor Kevin Burke says they are not sure whether they would have students available to do the painting, and their safety would also be a concern.

But he did say they would support the project, provide traffic control and also make a financial contribution towards the cost of materials.

She adds they would like the project done by the end of June in order to meet the Legion’s national 100th anniversary adding they will find the volunteers to complete the work.
