Espanola takes steps in case of flooding of Black Creek

By Rosalind Russell – The Town of Espanola has been in contact with Penstock Power LP (formerly Domtar) regarding high water flows in the Spanish River including Black Creek, which winds its way through Espanola to the main waterway.

Officials say there is a high potential of flooding at Panache Lake Road at Black Creek Bridge over the next several days due to high flows coming from the Northern watershed, so the Public Works Department is monitoring the water level, and the road is expected to be closed due to flooding and dangerous conditions.

Enbridge Gas is also taking steps to help ensure customers in Espanola and surrounding areas.

At at this time natural gas service in the community remains uninterrupted.

However, residents may see trucks or contractors in the area as their teams are on site to protect and maintain the pipeline near the river.

The town is urging extreme caution when considering travelling past Black Creek Bridge on Panache Lake Road.

The town does not wish to strand anyone on the other side of the bridge in the case of a road closure, being as this is the only vehicular access in and out.
