Attorney General Award presented to Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service Crisis Worker

By Rosalind Russell – A crisis worker with the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service has been presented with a provincial award for her ongoing work with the agency.

According to the release, Amanda Gibbons was presented the Attorney General Award for Exceptional Achievements on Behalf of Victims and Victim Services in Ontario earlier this week.

Officials say the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service Situation Table began in September 2025, with Gibbons playing an integral role in its planning and eventual implementation.

The Situation Table is a risk-driven, rapid triage approach that brings together multiple human service agencies (including police, mental health, addictions, housing, education, and child and family services).

 To date, the WTPS Situation Table has brought together over 27 community partner agencies and provided referrals to over 30 community members. 

  Officials say Gibbons is an integral of the weekly table and has also joined the Provincial ‘Multi-Sectoral Risk-Based Intervention Initiatives Community of Practice’.

 The goals are to prevent crises before they escalate, reduce repeat emergency calls, minimize criminalization and victimization, lower emergency department visits, and decrease involvement with the justice system.

helps ease the workload on frontline officers while ensuring individuals receive quicker access to the most appropriate
