
By Rosalind Russell – Espanola’s Caroline Ehrhardt has been inducted into the Greater Sudbury Sports Hall of Fame in recognition of all she has accomplished through her jumping and coaching.
Her former Espanola High School coach, David Gallant, says the induction took place yesterday and recognizes Caroline as a 10-time national champion in women’s triple jump and the current Canadian record holder at 14.03m.
He adds last year, she was appointed as the head coach of Western University’s track and field teams and has been named the U Sports Men’s Head Coach of the Year after Western men’s team won their second consecutive U Sports.
Caroline joined with the other five other inductees (and one posthumous inductee) at a gala at the Caruso Club last night.
Along with her 10 Canadian Championship gold medals, Caroline Won gold at the 2017 Jeux de la Francophonie in Ivory Coast with a jump of 13.83m.
She was named the Ontario University Athletics MVP for field events in consecutive years (2013 and 2014) and swept the OUA and CIS individual gold medals in the triple jump and long jump from 2013–2015.
As a member of the Espanola High Spartans Track and Field team, Caroline won every high school jumping competition she entered from Grade 10 through Grade 12 including six OFSAA gold medals and established the Canadian Interscholastic Record for triple jump twice.
