Kenjgewin Teg and Ninaatigoons Learning launch new accredited Anishinaabemowin Certificate Programs

By Rosalind Russell – Kenjgewin Teg launched two new accredited programs focused on Anishinabe language studies (the Biidwewdamowaad Nimkiig Biidaabang Certificate (BNB) – General Stream and BNB – Teaching Stream).

According to the release, the two programs have been delivered by Ninaatigoons Learning prior to Kenjgewin Teg’s new partnership but will now be delivered with added accreditation status as approved by the Indigenous Advanced Education and Skills Council.

The programs are designed for those who have always wanted to speak the language, as well as for those responding to the urgent need for teachers and community roles in language and culture.

Officials say the BNB General Stream is an eight-month virtual program with two in-person gatherings per semester at Kenjgewin Teg’s Sudbury Campus, focused on developing confident Anishinaabemowin speakers and supporting language revitalization through everyday use.

The BNB Teaching Stream is a nine-month virtual program with two in-person gatherings per semester and a five-week practicum in May, combining immersive language learning with education-focused courses to prepare learners to become Anishinaabemowin teachers.

They add graduates will earn either an Anishinaabemowin Certificate or an Anishinaabemowin Teaching Certificate, depending on their chosen stream.
