By Rosalind Russell – The Espanola Elks in partnership with the Espanola Lions Club is hosting a hearing clinic, which dovetails with new government supports coming into play.
The partner organizations are hosting a hearing clinic this coming Monday, October 26th from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Espanola Elks Hall.
Anyone interested in having their hearing tested or need assistance in how their hearing aids work and/or maintenance they require, can call the Elks to make an appointment.
Meanwhile, the province says Health Canada approved hearing aids will soon be sold over the counter.
Officials say once proposed regulatory changes pass, Ontarians with mild to moderate hearing loss will have more convenient and accessible options for hearing support.
A 30-day consultation period with people, industry partners and health organizations took place in April, which the Ford government says saw overwhelming support for the change.
Currently, all hearing aids in Ontario require a prescription.
Officials add the changes will have no impact on the province’s current care model, and funding assistance will still be available for prescribed hearing aids.
No firm timeline has been provided.
