Art installation marks Red Dress Day

By Rosalind Russell – An art installation will make this year’s Red Dress Day a special one for a Manitoulin Island community.

Wiikwemikoong Unceded Territory will have an art installation in place, which was spearheaded by the community, including children and youth who assisted in the painting of the silhouettes.

Communication Manager Mandy Richard says the intention of the art installation is to acknowledge, honour, and remember missing women, girls, 2spirited people, and men.

She says the silhouettes will be carried during the memorial walk this Sunday.

Richard adds silhouettes will also be placed on Mnidoo Mnising, beginning at the Little Current Bridge to Wiikwemkoong.

If you, your business, or organization would like to participate by installing one of the silhouettes, please contact Wiikwemkoong Administration 705-859-3122.
