By Rosalind Russell – An attack that left an 8-year-old with life-threatening injuries has deeply affected the community of Quadeville in southeastern Ontario.
A 17-year-old is facing charges of attempted murder and sexual assault with a weapon in connection with last month’s incident.
The OPP’s Bill Dickson says they have been aware of the heightened level of concern since.
Officers responded to a report of a missing child in the town on June 23, and the canine unit located the eight-year-old a few hours later.
During the investigation, the OPP says the cause of the injuries was unclear, and while early evidence suggested a possible animal attack, investigators did not rule out human involvement.
Police say recent testing of samples taken from the victim’s wounds has revealed no traces of animal DNA.
The accused was arrested and charged on Tuesday.
Police are holding a town hall meeting in the community on Saturday.
