By Rosalind Russell – One of Espanola’s most popular events is the annual Duck Race held on the Spanish River on Canada Day.
The 25th Annual Duck Race is held in support of North Shore Search and Rescue with 5,000 rubber ducks being released into the Spanish River.
The first 59 ducks to reach the finish line will win prizes donated by local businesses in support of the unit, whose volunteer members assist police and emergency services during search and rescue operations.
The organization receives no government support and the money raised from the event will go towards their insurance, training, and equipment costs.
Ducks are $5 each, or five for $20.
