Canadian inflation slightly slowed down

By Rosalind Russell – Lower energy prices helped inflation slow down to 1.7 per cent in April.

That’s according to Statistics Canada who says The Consumer Price Index is down from 2.3 per cent in March.

The agency says gasoline led the decline in consumer energy prices, falling over just over 18 per cent year-over-year in April.

Officials say the decrease was mainly driven by the removal of the consumer carbon price, along with lower crude oil prices.

Despite saving at the pump, Canadians paid more for food.

The agency says the price of fresh vegetables, beef, coffee and tea were on the rise.
