By Rosalind Russell – Yesterday was International Literacy Day, which marks the power of literacy and its role in creating opportunity, equity and a more informed society.
Rainbow District School Board CEO, Bruce Bourget, says International Literacy Day fell on the first day of school – a day when students in Espanola, Manitoulin Island and Sudbury began a new year of discovering the power of reading and writing.
He adds that reading and writing provide the foundation for all learning as students progress in school and that’s why it’s so important to develop strong literacy skills at a young age.
Bourget says Literacy and Numeracy is one of six priorities in the Rainbow District School Board’s
Strategic Connections.
